Sad News: Sean Payton head coach of Indianapolis colts just signed his retirement letter to live the club…

NFL pundit explains how the hiring of Sean Payton might make the Broncos’ $245,000,000 gamble backfire.

Fans of the Broncos believe that Payton may therefore greatly improve the offensive of the squad, which is led by quarterback Russell Wilson.

But Alex Ballentine of Bleacher Report puts things in perspective, stating that Wilson will be Denver’s biggest letdown in the 2023 NFL season.

Ballentine penned:

Nine-time Pro Bowler and Super Bowl winner Wilson finished 27th in overall QBR and had a career-low 16 touchdowns to 11 interceptions in his passing. The Broncos’ offensive efficiency percentage was 27th, and head coach Nathaniel Hackett was fired after just one season.

Wilson’s career-low completion percentage of 60.5 was the result of his inefficiency. The fact that the Denver Broncos finished worst in points per game (16.9) the previous season did not help either, since they were sacked 55 times. Also, according to Player Profiler, he completed 31 interceptable passes.

Nathaniel Hackett was thus let go after 15 games. Before the Broncos’ season ended with a 5-12 record, Jerry Rosburg assumed the position of temporary head coach.

On an offensive team that included Wilson, Latavius Murray, Courtland Sutton, and Jerry Jeudy, the result was not what was anticipated. On defense, the Broncos also boasted All-Pros Justin Simmons and Patrick Surtain II.

Wilson may regain his position as the Broncos’ starting quarterback with the assistance of Sean Payton’s creative creativity. After all, he assisted Drew Brees, the small quarterback, in winning two NFL offensive player of the year awards.

However, Ballentine noted:

Denver’s offense isn’t working, and if Sean Payton isn’t the answer, the organization will have further salary limit issues.

Even though Russell Wilson still had two years remaining on his previous deal with the Seattle Seahawks, he inked a five-year, $242 million contract extension with the Broncos during the summer.

Wilson’s contract with Denver runs through his 40th birthday in 2028, according to that agreement. If he performed as expected after a dismal season, the Broncos received a fair bargain.

There will be some harsh consequences for Broncos fans if he isn’t the same quarterback who won a Super Bowl.

If Wilson doesn’t do well in 2023, cutting him is an option. However, according to Spotrac, this would equate to an $85 million dead cap; therefore, it is not the best choice for the salary cap.

On their depth chart, they don’t have another reliable quarterback option that may end their postseason skid that ends in Super Bowl 50.

Russell Wilson and Sean Payton must make their collaboration succeed. If not, there will be a mess that the Indianapolis Colts will need some time to clear up.
