At first, it was believed that the Colts witnessed something on the field since special teams performed well without Brown (apart from kicker Matt Gay’s two misses), and receiver D.J. Montgomery was elevated and produced with two catches for 48 yards and a touchdown.

There have been rumors, though, that it may be related to something more profound.

“The #Colts announced they’ve placed WR Isaiah McKenzie and CB Tony Brown on the Reserve/Suspended list for the last three games of the regular season for conduct detrimental to the club,” wrote Horseshoe Huddle’s Jake Arthur on X.

The Colts locker room has an accountability culture, according to head coach Shane Steichen, so anything that might disrupt the squad will be handled politely and professionally. Still unknown, though, is what exactly led to McKenzie and Brown’s three-game suspensions.

By the end of 2023, McKenzie had 11 receptions for 82 yards. In addition, he adds three 14-yard runs, twenty-three punt returns (204 yards), and six kick returns (152 yards).

Brown totals 10 tackles, 1 interception, forced fumble, blocked punt, and pass defense at the end of the season.

Expect the Colts to keep winning with Montgomery starting at wide out instead of McKenzie. Josh Downs, a rookie slot receiver, also filled in as the returner on Saturday, and this arrangement is probably going to last.

Regarding Brown, despite his terrible season-long struggles at cornerback, Brian Mason will miss him as a vital special teams star. While the Colts attempt to secure an unexpected postseason berth, we’ll see if these sanctions have any effect on the team.

The Colts also announced that they signed defensive end Josh Down, wide receiver Jaydon Mickens, wide receiver Juwann Winfree, and wide receiver Tyler Goodson to the practice squad, officially elevating Goodson to the 53-man roster. They also released guard Lewis Kidd from the practice squad.
