receiving his fourth booking of the season late in the afternoon against Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday, Jonathan Hogg will have to tread carefully when it comes to discipline for the next few games. One more yellow card will automatically result in a suspension. Hogg was booked for a nasty tackle on Owls center-back Di’shon Bernard deep into injury time in the goalless draw at Hillsborough, which prevented him from breaking upfield after a Huddersfield Town attack broke down.
The Terriers captain received his first card of the season after receiving three bookings in the opening four games of the current Championship campaign, but it also puts him in danger of receiving a suspension during the next eight games. Players who receive five yellow cards up until and including the 19th league game of the season will automatically be suspended for one match, per FA regulations.
Hogg will have to stay uncarded up until and including the trip to Swansea City on December 2 if the fixture list stays the same. Without a doubt, Town supporters will be especially hoping that the combative captain is available for the huge rivalry match against Leeds United on October 28 when they go to Elland Road.

With three bookings, Jack Rudoni is Town’s second-most-booked player, after Delano Burgzorg, Josh Koroma, Matty Pearson, and Sorba Thomas, who each have two. This season, five Championship players from other teams have already received bans after reaching the five-card threshold: Sam Field of QPR, Jacob Graves of Hull, Sam Morsy of Ipswich, Jannik Vestergaard of Leicester, and Ben Pearson of Stoke.
The five-card limit will no longer apply after match 20. However, players who acquire 10 yellow cards before the 37th league game of the season will automatically be suspended for two matches. A three-match suspension applies if you receive 15 yellow cards before the last game of the regular league season, and a special disciplinary hearing is required if you receive 20.
