Could Golden State Warriors reunite with 2022 NBA champion after deadline trade?
A former fan favorite of the Golden State Warriors was involved in a flurry of deals on the final day of the NBA trade deadline, despite the team remaining silent in the closing hours leading up to it.
Otto Porter Jr. was officially moved to the Utah Jazz on Thursday in a deal that resulted in the Raptors’ Canadian native Kelly Olynyk. Porter Jr. had signed with the Toronto Raptors in the 2022 offseason after departing the Warriors.
Porter had a very turbulent time in Toronto following the transfer; in the 133 games he played with the team since joining, he was only able to play in 23 of them. Prior to having foot surgery last season, that only amounted to eight games.
Porter’s performance in his limited minutes has been lackluster even though he made a comeback at the beginning of the season. In 11.6 minutes per game, he averaged 2.6 points, 1.9 rebounds, and 34.8% from three-point range.
With a $6.3 million contract that is about to expire and no playing experience in Toronto’s last 20 games (since December 30), Porter’s future is once again in doubt following his trade to the Jazz on Thursday.
Although there has been no official word of Porter being acquired by Utah, Brett Siegel of Crutch Points said that the Suns, Clippers, Warriors, and Celtics would “all make sense” and advised “keeping an eye” on Porter before the deadline.
Even since a re-routing trade didn’t happen, is there any chance the Jazz won’t give a Porter buyout any thought in the upcoming days or weeks? Should Golden State be interested in bringing back the 2022 NBA champion if it were to happen?
