Uga X, the mascot of the Georgia Bulldogs, passes away at age 10
January 23 (UPI) The English bulldog known as Que and the mascot of the Georgia Bulldogs, Uga X, passed away, the school announced on Tuesday.
He was ten years old.
The Bulldogs reported that the dog passed away quietly in his sleep on Tuesday morning at his Savannah, Georgia, home.
With the Bulldogs winning two national titles and compiling a 91-18 record,
Que was the team’s mascot during the most successful period in the team’s history.
On November 21, 2015, in Athens, Georgia, he made his on-field debut as the Bulldogs defeated Georgia Southern 23-17.
Que gained notoriety in 2019 after the 1,600-pound bull, Bevo XV, Texas’ live mascot, almost ran him over.
After the 2022 season, Que retired, making way for Boom, the current mascot.
Since 1956, when Uga I’s reign started, the Seiler family has been the proud owner of the Bulldogs’ present line of pure white English bulldogs.
On game days, the dogs live in air-conditioned dog homes on the field and wear jerseys and spike collars.
According to the school’s athletics website, Georgia is the only major university that buries its mascots “within the confines” of its stadium.
The institution’s first eight bulldogs are buried in marble vaults near the main gate leading to the south bleachers of Sanford Stadium.
Prior to Uga I’s tenure, the school had four bulldogs and a goat as mascots from 1892 until 1955.
Boom, a.k.a. Uga XI, made its debut in April as the new mascot.
