Prior to Fulham’s matchup with Liverpool in the Carabao Cup semi-final, Bobby De Cordova-Reid has his sights set on another cup upset.
Although the Londoners are making their first trip to the final four of the competition, De Cordova-Reid has a wealth of experience from his Bristol City days.
Before Manchester City destroyed the Robins’ dreams of making history in the two-leg semi-finals back in 2018, the team defeated four elite teams: Watford, Stoke City, Crystal Palace, and Manchester United. Even while the run did not result in a title, it did solidify De Cordova-Reid’s conviction that he could play at a higher level, which is fortunate since a few months later, he was acquired in a blockbuster Premier League transfer.
“It was definitely a fun time,” he says to Mirror Football. “We probably faced five Premier League teams throughout our run, and it was satisfying to defeat them.
“Of course, the big one against Manchester United in the quarterfinal was incredible and gave us real hope that we could succeed.” However, we were unable to advance when we faced Manchester City (in the Semi-Final).Although Bristol City defeating Manchester City would be considered a bigger upset than Fulham defeating Liverpool, De-Cordova Reid and company are aware of the challenge that lies ahead given that Jurgen Klopp’s team is currently unbeaten at the top of the Premier League and once again challenging on all fronts.
However, Marco Silva’s team has nothing to worry about. Liverpool prevailed 4-3 in a thrilling Premier League encounter last month. Although Fulham has struggled lately, they will enter the game high after defeating Arsenal.
“We recognize the value they offer,” De Cordova-Reid adds of Liverpool. “They’re a big club and a good team, but we still think we have a chance, and we have to have faith in ourselves to win.”
