Marco Silva has been handed a touchline ban following his third yellow card of the season, which occurred during Fulham’s third game against Arsenal. This means he won’t be able to manage from the dugout during their upcoming Carabao Cup clash with Tottenham.
The Football Association (FA) has implemented stricter rules regarding poor behavior by managers and players this season, including a new ‘participant charter’. Silva, who faced touchline bans last season as well, acknowledged the challenge of adjusting to these stricter protocols.
He expressed his difficulty adhering to the guidelines, stating that being on the bench is crucial for him to support his players. However, he admitted that if sitting on the bench becomes the only solution, he may have to consider leaving because he prefers to be actively involved rather than watching from the stands.
Despite the setback, Fulham showed resilience in their 2-2 draw against Arsenal, especially after going down to ten men due to Calvin Bassey’s red card. Silva voiced frustration over the lack of consistency in refereeing decisions, particularly regarding Bassey’s first yellow card for time-wasting. He highlighted the contrast between these incidents and other instances of similar behavior that weren’t penalized with yellow cards, questioning the consistency of the officiating.
