Manchester United have brought in two key signings to kick their summer spending off but they are far from ready to settle for the business they have done so far. After welcoming Joshua Zirkzee and Leny Yoro to the club, focus has now turned to other potential signings.
The Red Devils have a lot of rumours circling them at the moment as they prepare to bounce back stronger from a disappointing 2023/24 Premier League season. United finished eighth last campaign after mustering up just 60 points, recording their worst ever Premier League finish and worst top flight run since 1989/90.New attacking options are on the radar for the Reds, after they returned the joint-lowest goals scored in the top ten, level with Crystal Palace. They are also eager to add to their backline and have been linked with several high profile names since the transfer window opened
The Toffees have reportedly already knocked back two official bids from United, with the latest coming in at £50 million. However, the Merseyside club want £70 million before they consider letting Branthwaite leave.
The tricky nature of this transfer link doesn’t stop at Everton’s stubbornness either. According to Mails port, Branthwaite is ‘not intending to sign a new deal’ with the Blues unless they ‘can match’ the £160,000 per week wage packet that United have reportedly offered him.
Talks are yet to take place regarding new contract figures but the report claims these will likely happen towards the end of the window. Branthwaite is ‘prepared to hold off’ committing to a new deal with Everton unless they can ‘get close’ to the figure United have promised him. The Red Devils are also reportedly now taking a step back from negotiations.
Branthwaite isn’t the only defensive target on United’s radar but a number of clubs are looking to strengthen their backline, so the Reds are up against some competition for most players. Noussair Mazraoui is another example.
According to The Athletic, Premier League rivals West Ham are ‘closing in’ on a deal for the United target, having made both club and player agreements for the Moroccan right-back. Erik ten Hag’s side have been showing interest in Mazrui but the Hammers are ahead in the race for his signature as things stand.
