This season, under Sean Dyche, the 26-year-old has made very few appearances and has fallen to fourth choice in the center of defense.
Godfrey has only made two starts this season:
The first came in the EFL Cup against League Two Doncaster Rovers, and the second came at left back against Burnley when Everton was having selection issues.
This month, Milan is reportedly looking to bolster their defense, and according to Calciomercato, one option the Rossoneri are exploring is a move for Godfrey.
Milan previously looked in the Premier League for a defender when they acquired Fikayo Tomori from Chelsea in 2021.
After Ruben Loftus-Cheek also made the move in the summer, another Englishman may soon be heading to San Siro.
Stefano Pioli is now coping with multiple injuries, including those to Tomori, Pierre Kalulu, and Malick Thiaw.
The season has also seen a significant absence of the seasoned Simon Kjaer, while offensive left-back Theo Hernandez has frequently been compelled to play central defense.
In order to help handle the growing number of injuries, Matteo Gabbia was called back from his loan at Villarreal and has since established himself as a regular.
Meanwhile, Jan-Carlo Simic has been brought up through the ranks quickly and made his debut towards the end of 2023.
With his Everton career currently fading, a move to San Siro might give Godfrey fresh life.
The former Norwich City player clearly has no future under Dyche, especially with just 18 months left on his Goodison Park contract, especially with James Tarkowski and Jarrad Branthwaite still looking good.
Godfrey has not been used as a replacement in any of the games this season save one, in which Michael Keane is the preferred alternative in the event of a suspension, injury, or change in formation.
Another name linked to Milan is Lilian Brassier of Brest, although a bidding war may keep the Serie A team from signing the gifted young player due to strong interest from around Europe.
Godfrey’s versatility is thought to be appealing to Milan as well, given that he filled out all backline positions during his time at Everton.
Godfrey hasn’t even had any playing time in the FA Cup, and if he skips Everton’s match against Luton Town on Saturday, it might get him closer to the exit.
