Everton’s match against Chelsea should serve as the team’s “restart” to better play, according to Sean Dyche, following the news of a second points punishment.

For a second infraction of the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability (PSR) regulations, Everton was docked two more points this week, bringing their total points for the season to eight.

Ahead of their trip to Chelsea on Monday at Stamford Bridge, the Toffees have fallen to 16th in the standings and are now only two points above the Premier League’s relegation places.

Following the revelation of their first points deduction in November—the Blues were first docked 10 points, but that number was eventually lowered to six on appeal—Everton went on to win four straight Premier League games.

Dyche is optimistic that his team will demonstrate unity and cohesion once more in response to the second round of sanctions.

Although it is an ancient cliché, the front-foot feel makes sense. At his pre-game press conference, he stated, “We need to recall ourselves that everyone pulled together for the club the last time we was knocked out.

“The supporters are amazing; they came together to support us, serving as a constant reminder that the badge matters more than anything and that our emotions are the same.” We are all working together to take care of each other and our club: myself, the players, the staff, and the supporters.

“We’re starting again in Chelsea. We’re responding to the news, which is necessary, but we need to respond positively, take the initiative, and respond to the challenge that lies ahead.
