Ike Richards saw something that Kobbie Mainoo, a midfielder for Manchester United, performed in their 2-1 victory over Luton Town, and he advised the other players to do the same.
Since making his full debut earlier this season, the 18-year-old has developed into a vital member of United’s squad.
Having suffered an ankle injury in the preseason, Mainoo missed the first part of the season. However, in November’s 3-0 victory over Everton, he made his debut as a starter.
Since then, he has made ten appearances in the Premier League and earlier this month, he scored the game-winning goal in a 4-3 triumph over Wolverhampton Wanderers.
The teenager helped United go within five points of the top four after playing the entire ninety minutes against Luton.
Pundits have observed that Mainoo has the poise of a seasoned professional throughout games.
Gary Lineker clarified on the Rest Is Football podcast, saying, “I mentioned Mainoo. He appeals to me.
“This young man, every time I see him, I think he’s so impressive, so mature in his performances.”
In response, Richards said, “It’s just like his composure.” You know, he was the only one who could get his foot on the ball and maintain composure while in possession today when the game was becoming a little crazy.”

In the first half, Mainoo was partnered with Casemiro, and in the second, with Scott McTominay. After tackling Amari’i Bell in the first half, Casemiro received a warning and almost received another one for bumping into Ross Barkley a few moments later.
Manager Erik ten Hag decided to substitute the Brazil international because he was afraid he would be shown the red card for the fourth time in his United career.
Because of Mainoo’s outstanding professional football debut, supporters have already demanded that Gareth Southgate give him consideration for the England team.
An international call-up so quickly, in Richards’ opinion, could be detrimental to Mainoo’s growth.
The former defender for Manchester City went on: “It’s always a tough one when it comes to England.”
“If I could, I’d take him. since he has experienced the strain of both fitting in and United.

“Recall that he truly made a mistake a few games ago [the 2-0 loss to West Ham United in December] that resulted in a goal, but he recovered and it didn’t impact him, so you can see his genuine character there.
