The Premier League initially fined Verton 10 points for violating the Profit and Sustainability Rules. The Toffees entered a relegation struggle as a result. The club did, however, challenge the decision. An independent appeal board declared on Monday that Everton would only lose six points instead of ten.

The lowered points deduction has caused Nottingham Forest to drop to 17th place in the league. Everton overtook Brentford and them to occupy the fifteenth position. The Nottinghamshire team was in a relatively comfortable position, but after the table was updated, they are now just one spot outside the relegation zone.

The punishment for Evrton’s point deduction has recently lowered. This might have made it more difficult for Liverpool to win the Premier League this year. Right now, the Reds are leading the table. With 12 games remaining, they are two points above Arsenal and one point ahead of Manchester City, the winners of the previous campaign. On Saturday, Jurgen Klopp’s team will play Nottingham Forest. However, the outcome of this weekend’s game at the City Ground may directly affect how their local rivals Everton fare.

Nuno Espirito Santo’s team will now be fighting for every point they can to maintain their top tier position as a result of the points table rearrangement, beginning with Saturday’s Premier League matchup against Liverpool. Last season, the Reds suffered a 1-0 loss at the City Ground. They even triumphed over Arsenal and drew with Man City at the City Ground that same season. Arsenal hardly managed a win at the City Ground even this season.

The City Ground is undoubtedly a difficult place to win, as history has shown, and City and Arsenal will be hoping that this encourages Forest to steal points from Liverpool. The Reds themselves will carry on with a severely injured roster that is supported by young, skilled players.
