Tom Davies’ departure from Everton has been officially confirmed. The midfielder has chosen to turn down a new contract with the Toffees in pursuit of regular playing time elsewhere. Davies, who made 179 appearances and scored seven goals for his childhood club, bids farewell to Goodison Park at the age of 24 with hopes of revitalizing his career.
Joining Yerry Mina, Andros Townsend, and Asmir Begovic, who are also leaving at the end of their contracts, Davies marks another departure from Everton. Manager Sean Dyche’s team may see further exits before the summer transfer window closes. The club may seek to offload several fringe players, send out some youngsters on loan, and there’s also a key starter who reportedly has attracted interest.
Among the potential departures, defender Mason Holgate has been on the periphery for the past two seasons, suggesting Everton might look to sell him, especially if he desires regular playing time elsewhere.
Meanwhile, striker Neal Maupay had a disappointing debut season at Goodison, scoring just one goal, leading to speculation of a move to Italy or France.
In contrast, midfielder Amadou Onana is considered one of Everton’s most valuable assets. However, the club might need to sell him to bolster their finances. Onana has reportedly caught the attention of Chelsea and Arsenal, with West Ham also expressing interest.
On Monday, Crystal Palace come to Goodison Park for a relegation six pointer – a win will take the Blues within two points of Palace. Conversely, anything less will ensure the Eagles maintain or extend their valuable points advantage.
The situation at Selhurst Park has become more worrying after the terrible news of Roy Hodgson becoming ill prior to his pre-match news conference for the Everton trip. Everyone in football sends their best wishes to one of the good guys for a speedy recovery.
However, for Palace chairman and co-owner Steve Parish it is difficult to navigate, with reports suggesting former Eintracht Frankfurt manager Oliver Glasner was on the verge of being appointed as Hodgson’s successor.
Meanwhile, Everton’s recent run is not particularly eye-catching. Their last Premier League win was away at Burnley two months ago.
