After the season, a seasoned quarterback for the Detroit Lions apparently intends to retire.

ALLEN Park Teddy Bridgewater, a veteran quarterback for the Detroit Lions, told the Detroit Free Press that he intends to coach high school football in the Miami area after retiring from the game this season.

In the story, Bridgewater discusses his journey to Detroit from the point of almost retirement during the last offseason and his experiences as an established player in the team’s youthful locker room.

According to Bridgewater, “I was genuinely pleased with being done,” the Free Press said. “And actually, not much went into it; it was just that I felt OK and could go on with my own circumstances.” Nevertheless, when we spoke for a long time with Dan (Campbell), I was like, “Man, all right, Dan, I got you.”

With the exception of three victory formation repetitions against the Carolina Panthers more than two months ago, the 31-year-old quarterback hasn’t seen any live action this season. However, Bridgewater has improved as the number two quarterback on a club that hopes to make the playoffs, and he has been an invaluable presence in the locker room for all of the quarterbacks on this squad.

Bridgewater has experienced a small portion of everything this league has to offer. He was a one-time Pro Bowler and former first-round choice whose career was tragically cut short due to a knee injury before an incredible recovery. Additionally, he is approachable in the locker room due to his positive outlook, whether it is at his locker or the card table for reporters or other players.

After signing a contract with the Minnesota Vikings in 2014, Bridgewater has started 65 games. With 66.4% of his throws completed, he has thrown 47 interceptions against 75 touchdowns.

Bridgewater has also played for the Carolina Panthers, Denver Broncos, Miami Dolphins, and New Orleans Saints, in addition to the Vikings and Lions. Bridgewater’s relationship with Lions head coach Dan Campbell during his time in New Orleans helped to set the stage for this last campaign.

Teddy has been amazing. Earlier this week, Campbell declared, “I can now walk down that entire route.” “Teddy has been amazing for many individuals here.” Aside from the obvious—that is, that he is a man who can go in and win for us—he is a tremendous benefit to us.

But, wow, I believe a lot of people are unaware of the sheer amount of work he performs behind the scenes. He’s a great addition to our group.
