“I’ve done difficult races before, but that’s one I’ll remember for a long time,” Alaphilippe told reporters from the steps of the bus.
“It was a day of suffering, the likes of which I’ve rarely experienced since the start of my career. I’m still cold, even though I crossed the line a good while ago.”
“I find it all sad, above all, because this is a team that has been at the heart of cycling for many years, with its own history.
“But we’re not going to cry. We’re here to do the race and we see what happens.”
Alaphilippe described the proliferation of question marks regarding the merger as ‘a bit annoying’. Since the news of the potential merger was leaked a little over a week ago to Wielder flits, the dearth of information has been filled by a seemingly endless number of rumours, but few hard facts.
