Crystal Palace ‘suffer Michael Olise, Marc Guehi injury setbacks’.
Important central defender Marc Guehi will also be sidelined for a few weeks for Palace following his dismissal during the first half of the match at the Amex this past weekend.
The club is currently involved in a relegation battle as a result of their crushing defeat to their rivals, and manager Roy Hodgson is still very much in danger of losing his job.
Palace’s current form has seen them win just two of their last 14 games in all competitions, placing them in 14th place, only five points above the relegation zone.
Olise was brought on from the bench at halftime with the team down 3-0 at the weekend, but he only lasted nine minutes before needing to be replaced due to a persistent hamstring problem.
Hodgson was heavily criticized for starting a player who wasn’t well enough to play in a game that was virtually out of their reach considering the score at the time.
According to The Daily Mail, Olise will now need to miss six to eight weeks of action while he heals from the problem’s reappearance.
The main worry is that, depending on how his recovery proceeds, Olise’s absence could be considerably longer, delaying his return until much later in the season.
In their 3-2 victory over Sheffield United last Wednesday, Olise scored and assisted on two more goals, demonstrating his significance.
The Frenchman, however, only lasted 68 minutes before being removed. He was judged fit enough to start on the bench, but he was withdrawn due to hamstring tightness. As a result, he is doubtful for Brighton’s match.
Claims that Hodgson should take the blame for Olise’s subsequent setback following the loss were rebuffed.
“Everyone seemed to be okay with him not being able to start the game, but they informed me and he said it was okay for him to sit on the bench and play in the second half.
“Unfortunately, I don’t have a crystal ball and I wasn’t to know that would lead to a recurrence of his injury.” stated Hodgson.
Olise missed the first four months of the season and a large portion of January, meaning he has only made 11 appearances for the Eagles this year. His lone start of 2024 came in the Sheffield United victory.
The degree of Guehi’s injury has been updated, which is more bad news for the supporters of the Palace.
