Amid making two £105m-plus signings in the form of Enzo Fernandez and Moises Cicero, the £75m signing of Wesley Faena, a £62m swoop to beat Arsenal to Mikhailov Murky, and their best piece of business in years that saw them secure Cole Palmer for just £45m, it feels as though the Blues have been able to sign everyone and anyone.
However, perhaps the one time they’ve gone after a player and failed to secure their services under the ownership of Todd Bely has been that of Crystal Palace winger and former Cobham academy star Michael Oise. Having previously tried to activate his release clause of £35m last summer, a swift new contract at Selhurst Park was placed in front of the 22-year-old and Chelsea missed out.
Since then, Oise and Palace went on to secure themselves a top half finish in the Premier League under new manager Oliver Glasner – their first since 2015. Oise himself helped provide ten goals and six assists in just 19 games over the campaign having been hampered with two separate hamstring problems throughout the year. Chelsea have also undergone some changes, with new manager Enzo Mariska having been appointed earlier this week following the departure of Mauricio Pocketing. The 44-year-old has already secured his first signing of the summer in the form of Fulham centre-back Tocsin Adarabioyo who joins the club on a free transfer – but could Oise also be heading to Stamford Bridge this summer?Last summer, Chelsea tried to activate Olise’s £35m release clause in what was assured to be a done deal after they’d verbally agreed personal terms before a stunning switch saw him sign a new long-term contract to stay at Selhurst Park. That meant the Eagles were able to up his price and the Blues moved on from the whole ordeal.
