Breaking News: Shaheen Afridi’s Response to Being Dropped from Pakistan’s Test Squad His Support for Teammates and Future Aspirations

Pakistan’s star fast bowler Shaheen Shah Afridi has reacted after being dropped from the squad for the remaining two Test matches against England. Alongside Babar Azam, Naseem Shah, and Sarfaraz Ahmed, Afridi was excluded from the team following Pakistan’s heavy loss in the first Test against England in Multan. The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced the decision just days before the second Test, prompting varied responses from the cricket community.

Despite his disappointment, Afridi took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his support for his teammates, saying, “Wishing Team Pakistan the best of luck! Rooting for a strong comeback. We’re all cheering for you!” This statement reflects his encouragement as the team prepares to face England again at the same venue.

The decision to drop these experienced players was made by a newly-formed selection committee looking to change Pakistan’s fortunes. Committee member Aqib Javed explained, “We had to carefully consider player form, the urgency to recover in the series, and Pakistan’s demanding international schedule for 2024-25.” He stressed that the decision was in the “best interest of Pakistan cricket and the players,” ensuring they are rested and ready for future challenges.

The exclusion of Afridi, along with Azam and Shah, has sparked mixed reactions. Some supporters see the decision to rest players as a smart strategy for their fitness in upcoming international matches, while others worry that sidelining key players during a critical series could undermine their confidence. Afridi’s recent struggles with form after a knee injury have raised concerns, but he remains one of Pakistan’s most valuable players.

The PCB’s strategy indicates a shift towards providing younger players with opportunities to shine. Mohammad Ali, Mohammad Huraira, Kamran Ghulam, and Zahir Mehmood have been called up as replacements in hopes of revitalizing the team. As Pakistan prepares to face England in the second Test on the same pitch in Multan, there is significant pressure to avoid another defeat and equal the series. England, strengthened by the return of captain Ben Stokes, will pose a tough challenge, while Pakistan aims for a comeback with their newly-formed lineup.
