When Coventry City hosts Leeds United on Saturday (3pm), they’ll be gathering their strength following their dismal loss on Monday and ready to play with fresh vigor.
The Sky Blues’ push for the play-offs was hindered after they conceded a lead against Cardiff, allowing the Bluebirds to score two own goals and take the match to South Wales. But with a quick turnaround for the weekend, City must get ready to compete at their best level against second-place United, who are aiming to win an automatic promotion slot, if not a chance at the Championship crown. There is no time to sit back and consider what could have been.
This week’s notebook features Sky Blues reporter Andy Turner’s weekly summary of everything Coventry City related.

Request for recruitment that perplexed scouts
The reaction of Coventry City’s recruitment department to the loss of top striker Viktor Gyokeres last summer has been revealed by Mark Robins.
After almost a full year, the Sky Blues seem to have found success with the combination of Ellis Simms and Haji Wright, who have scored an astounding 33 goals between them. With eight games remaining, including the FA Cup semifinal, record signing Wright—who came from Turkish side Antalyaspor—upped his season total to sixteen, while Simms, who signed with Premier League Everton, increased it to seventeen over the Easter weekend.
When a national journalist inquired about the club’s plans to replace Viktor Gyokeres, who scored 23 goals the previous season, Robins joked, “If anyone can tell me how to replace Viktor Gyokeres then please feel free because I don’t think there’s a chance.” Simms, in particular, scored twice to help defeat Huddersfield 3-1 on Good Friday.
