Zac Taylor, the head coach of the Bengals, thought about giving Brian Callahan the play. Calling to Brian Callahan
Cincinnati: Dan Pitcher, the Bengals’ new offensive coordinator, was formally presented on Thursday. Brian Callahan, who has been in Cincinnati for the last five years, is replaced by the 37-year-old.
Pitcher was promoted since earlier this week Callahan took over as head coach of the Titans.
Dave Lapham reports that although Bengals head coach Zach Taylor thought about switching things up before Callahan was hired, he decided against it. Taylor is slated to call plays again in 2024.
Lapham said to Lance McAlister on 700 WLW, “I heard that Zac Taylor was considering giving over the play-calling responsibility to Brian Callahan next season.””When Brian Callahan went on, that changed.”
Next season, Callahan will call plays for the Titans. And Taylor will probably continue to call plays for the Bengals.
This does demonstrate Taylor’s adaptability. He’s receptive to suggestions, which is consistent with Lapham’s remarks made later in the conversation.
It’s not a dictatorship; democracy is in charge. Everybody has a voice, and that voice is big,” said Lapham. “You’re going to gain a louder voice if you prove that your voice deserves it; Dan Pitcher was one example of that.”
Following their 9-8 season in 2023, Taylor and the Bengals are looking to bounce back. Their season was interrupted by injuries to Joe Burrow and other important players, but they seem willing to make adjustments in order to maximize their offensive.
