Blackhawks agree to terms with Jason Dickinson on 2-year extension.

The Chicago Blackhawks announced on Tuesday that they and forward Jason Dickinson have reached an agreement on a two-year extension that will last through the 2025–2026 campaign. His $4.25 million cap hit is owed.

Dickinson, 28, was scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season, and trade speculations involving him were probably circulating prior to the deadline of March 8. However, the Blackhawks believed that he was more important to the group than any possible trade value Dickinson could bring in.

Blackhawks general manager Kyle Davidson released a statement saying, “Jason adds a unique two-way game to our lineup and his compete level is consistently strong every night.” This year, he is displaying his offensive potential, which has greatly benefited our squad. His influence has been felt throughout the room, especially with our young men, and his leadership has been crucial. We’re thrilled to have him back and to watch him develop further with our group.”

During his Tuesday media conference discussing the deal, Dickinson couldn’t stop grinning.

“It’s nice to be here, it’s nice to be somewhere you’re wanted,” said Dickinson. “Because it’s a location I want to be, I’m grateful to Kyle, his staff, and my people for getting things done.

“They’ve shown a commitment to me so it’s only right that I show that same commitment back and give them everything to help bring this team forward because they’ve invested two years in me, so now it’s my job to help raise the level and keep giving back what I can to make it worthwhile.”

On the attacking end, Dickinson is having a breakthrough year. With 14 goals and 21 points, he is ranked third on the team. In addition, he has been the backup captain while certain injured players are not available.

“Very good news for the player and the organization,” stated Luke Richardson, head coach of the Blackhawks. “Happy for him. He has put in a lot of effort and performed incredibly well with our group. He is also a terrific leader for some of the newer guys and a real asset to our needs at the moment.

Dickinson easily might have been a piece this season at the trade deadline for a contender. However, he has found meaning in creating something in Chicago and intends to stick there for the long haul with the Blackhawks.
