Corey Perry’s contract will be terminated by the Chicago Blackhawks.

In an attempt to end his contract, the NHL franchise placed the 38-year-old Canadian winger on unconditional waivers, the team said in a statement on Tuesday.

Perry, who joined the organization in June following a two-season tenure with the Tampa Bay Lightning, was the subject of an internal probe that led to the decision.

As stated in the announcement, Perry “has engaged in conduct that is unacceptable, and in violation of the Blackhawks’ internal policies intended to promote professional and safe work environments as well as the terms of his Standard Player’s Contract.”

Corey Perry has been placed on unconditional waivers as a result,” it said. “We intend to terminate Mr. Perry’s contract with immediate effect, provided he clears waivers.”

The Blackhawks representative did not immediately reply to PEOPLE’s request for comment, and the team did not specify what “conduct” Perry had engaged in to justify these penalties.

The team’s general manager, Kyle Davidson, refuted social media claims that Perry’s departure includes his teammates or their families during a press conference on Tuesday afternoon. Davidson also gave additional details regarding the incident.

Davidson stated during the conference, which was broadcast live by, “As this is an individual personnel matter, I will not be able to disclose any details related to the initial reporting, investigation, or the findings.”

He then on, “But let me be very clear: none of the players or their families are involved in this.” Additionally, it is utterly false and, to be honest, repulsive for anyone or anything to imply differently.
