sad news: chicago blackhawk key player just had terrible accident due to…..

The Calgary Flames, led by Jonathan Huberdeau, were not happy with their loss to an injured Chicago Blackhawks team.

Following the Flames’ 4-3 loss on Sunday, Huberdeau said to Pat Steinberg of The FAN 960, “It’s a tough one to swallow.” “It’s a game that we’ve got to win.”

Captain Mikael Backlund of Calgary mirrored those ideas.

“If we want to be a playoff team, that’s a game we’ve got to win, find a way to win,” he stated. “It wasn’t good enough.”

“I felt like we were just not dialed in enough and (there are) just no excuses for that,” he said.

Ryan Huska, head coach of the Flames, offered a more concise opinion.

“They were hungrier and harder than we were,” he stated.

For the Blackhawks, Colin Blackwell scored twice, including the game-winning goal that made it 4-2. With his second goal of the match, Nazem Kadri answered, but that was the closest Calgary would come.

The first overall choice in this year’s draft, Connor Bedard, leads all rookies in scoring, was not playing for Chicago in his first game back. In terms of offensive, the 18-year-old is also leading his team, leading in all three major categories, including points by ten.

But even before Bedard’s broken jaw forced him to return to injured reserve, the Blackhawks were woefully short-manned. Eight of Chicago’s top 12 forwards, including Taylor Hall, as well as standout defenseman Seth Jones, are absent. They only had 11 forwards on the field on Sunday, and they presently pay more on injured reserve than they do with players on the field.

It was the Flames’ third away game in four nights. They went 2-2-0 on the trip, defeating the Minnesota Wild on Tuesday and the Nashville Predators on Thursday before dropping their next two games against the Philadelphia Flyers and the Blackhawks.

With Sunday’s loss, Calgary’s record for the season dropped to 17-18-5. They have played four more games than the Edmonton Oilers, two more than the St. Louis Blues, and one more than the Seattle Kraken, but they are only two points short of the second wild-card slot in the Western Conference.
