Patrick Kane’s return to Chicago with Red Wings ‘will be pretty loud’.
good news former chicago blackhawks just announced his return to the club this week…..
The best way to describe the atmosphere inside United Center on Sunday when Patrick Kane makes his way back to Chicago was to ask his former teammate Jonathan Toews.
For those who played with him, Kane’s first game back as a member of the Detroit Red Wings (6 p.m. ET; BSDET, NHLN, NBCSCH, SN) should be a hero’s welcome. Kane is a three-time Stanley Cup winner with the Blackhawks.
“It’s amazing how committed he has been to the game for such a long time,” the former captain of Chicago wrote in an email to his enduring friend. “After everything he’s done over the years, he deserves the love and support of his supporters.
“Having said that, he should have chosen a different team to visit (laughs), but it will be interesting to observe the reaction he receives.”
Following his recuperation from hip resurfacing surgery on June 1, Kane inked a $2.75-a-year deal with the Red Wings on November 28. Even though the rivalry between the two Original Six clubs has lessened recently, it will be different to see Kane in that uniform in Chicago once more.
Eddie Olczyk, a former player for the Blackhawks and current television analyst for the Seattle Kraken and TNT, said of Patrick Kane: “Look, there are obviously many more chapters to be written in Blackhawks hockey, but to this point, to me, Patrick Kane’s the greatest Chicago Blackhawk ever.”
“It doesn’t look right to see him wearing a Red Wings sweater, but some of the best players in hockey history have worn different sweaters.”
Whichever shirt he wears, Kane’s comeback to Chicago is unique. One of the best players to be born in the United States in NHL history, he contributed to the resurgence of Blackhawks hockey and was a major factor in the team’s three Stanley Cup victories (2010, 2013, 2015).
