Breaking News: Joey Anderson has finally agreed to the $100 million agreement with…..

In return for Joey Anderson, the Toronto Maple Leafs sent Andreas Johnsson to the New Jersey Devils.

The team has now verified the agreement, which Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet first reported.

The Maple Leafs cleared a $3.4-million cap commitment by trading for Johnsson, as reported by Sportsnet’s Chris Johnston. This was required following the team’s acquisitions of T.J. Brodie and Wayne Simmonds.

After being chosen 73rd overall by the New Jersey Devils in the 2016 NHL Draft, Anderson played for both New Jersey and its AHL club, the Binghamton Devils, in the 2019–20 season.

He finished with four goals and two assists in 18 games with the Devils. Anderson has competed internationally for the United States at the U17, U18, and U20 levels. In the 2017 global junior championships, he won a gold medal, and in the 2018 competition, he took home a bronze.

According to Johnston, Anderson, who was in the last year of a three-year contract worth an average of $925,000 annually, is currently a restricted free agent with 10.2(c) status. This implies he will have to negotiate a new contract in Toronto as he is not qualified for an offer sheet.

Johnsson, who played 43 games with the Maple Leafs last season and recorded eight goals and thirteen assists, gets acquired by the Devils.

In his four years with Toronto, the 25-year-old recorded thirty goals and thirty-seven assists.

“Andreas is a diligent, aggressive striker with flexibility in his positional awareness,” stated general manager of the Devils Tom Fitzgerald in a news statement. “His all-around versatility, combined with his skating, quickness, and scoring touch, will be a great complement to our centermen.”
