Prior to his winter loan move, Burnley’s periphery player was scheduled for a Millwall medical.
This month, Millwall is looking to recruit players as Joe Edwards begins his first transfer window at The Den.
The only new player this month is Japhet Tanganga, who joined on loan from Tottenham Hotspur.
But it appears that signage number two is en route to South London.
Transfer guru Fabrizio Romano disclosed on X that Michael Obafemi, a striker for Burnley, will be loaned to Millwall for the remainder of the Championship season.
He said that a contract was reached in principle today (Monday) and that in order to complete the deal, a medical will be held this week.
Following his January transfer from Swansea City to Burnley, Obafemi has struggled to find opportunities.
Only two appearances have he made this season in the Premier League, both as a substitute.
Is this a wise decision for everyone?
Obafemi was sidelined by a hamstring injury early in the season, but considering how little he’s played since coming back, a loan seems to be his best bet.
After experiencing success in the championship in the past, he will be looking to improve, and Millwall might be a fantastic spot for him to rediscover his form and confidence.
Obafemi provides depth at the top of the pitch, where the only other choices are Kevin Nisbet and Tom Bradshaw.
Although they’re better in other areas, players like Duncan Watmore, Zian Flemming, and Aidomo Emakhu have performed there in the past.
Obafemi is a striker who possesses speed and physicality.
His 52 games played for his former club, Swansea City, saw him return with 15 goals and 4 assists, demonstrating his ability to score goals at this level.
For the rest of the season, the 23-year-old could prove to be a terrific addition if he can recover his form with Millwall.
