After moving to Burnley this summer from West Brom, Vincent Kompany assesses Dara O’Shea’s recent performances.
The consistency that Burnley’s Dara O’Shea has displayed lately has pleased Vincent Kompany.
After joining Burnley in the summer from West Brom, the 24-year-old has been a near constant in the team thus far this season, recording 23 appearances overall.
Early on, the center back’s performances were a touch inconsistent, which was indicative of the team’s overall play.
But regardless of his partner at the center of Burnley’s defense, the Irishman has been among Kompany’s most reliable players for a while now.
Kompany stated, “He’s been a strong performer for us.”
“In addition to the obvious, which would be his increased play in recent games, I believe that he is also developing as a leader and a person with growing character.
“These guys are making that transition; they’re in the middle of being young and experienced.”Your value increases with the number of games you play and your level of task awareness when other players interact with you.
“I’m happy for him, but the wonderful thing about this work is that there’s always tomorrow.”
This season, O’Shea has played 1,478 minutes for Burnley; only James Trafford, Josh Brownhill, and Sander Berge have appeared in more games.
The defender is second in the team after Clarets captain Brownhill in terms of interceptions made, ranking highly in the statistics with an average of one per game.
With an average of 4.8 clearances per game, O’Shea has also made the most, surpassing Charlie Taylor and Jordan Beyer. Blocks ahead of O’Shea, Beyer is seated on the table.
