Millwall boss Edwards on an Obafemi loan deal from Burnley.
Joe Edwards, the head coach of Millwall, thinks that Michael Obafemi’s loan move is beneficial for both sides.
Obafemi, an international for the Republic of Ireland, will play out the rest of the season at the Den in an effort to accumulate playing time.
After recovering from an injury, the 23-year-old has made a few outings in the Premier League as a substitute.
He moved from Swansea to the Clarets in January 2023, first on loan and then permanently in the summer.
“We have been well aware of Michael as a player,” Edwards stated on the team website. He has scored goals while competing at both the Premier League and Championship levels.
“After talking to him, we found out that he could go on loan from Burnley, and he was eager to join us.
We were glad to move rapidly to make it happen because it suited both of us nicely. It makes me very happy to have him here.
“I’ve been saying since the transfer window opened that there are two things I’m looking for: players who can help us and make an impact, as well as having more athleticism in our team,” he continued.
“If that’s what you’re talking about, Michael has plenty of that. He is among the most explosive players available at this level, as seen by his previous performances at this level.
“He has had some issues with injury, so we will have to manage that well, but we believe we are able to do that so he can be a big addition for us.”
After losing 2-0 to Queens Park Rangers on Saturday, Millwall is now ranked eighteenth in the championship standings. This Saturday, Edwards’ team will play their return match against Preston North End.
