Done Deal: Burnley Set To Conduct Medicals For…

Burnley is currently “working” to acquire a “special” player for Kompany.

As the January transfer market enters its last nine days, Burnley has only added David Datro Fofana, who is coming from Chelsea on loan.

The manager hopes to have another fresh face in the door by the time Vincent Kompany’s team returns to action on January 31 away to Manchester City, when Fofana might make his debut.

To maximize the window and give themselves an opportunity to mount a full-fledged survival drive in the second half of the season, the Clarets are under pressure.

They are currently 19th in the Premier League rankings, five points from safety.

Even though the club has promised to be conservative and not overspend in the event of relegation, they were expected to be active this month and adopt an open-minded stance, ready to bolster any position where the proper upgrade is available.

And it appears that they could have located a center-back.

Burnley is “working on” an Esteve agreement.

Journalist Fabrizio Romano claims that Burnley is attempting to sign Montpellier’s Maxime Esteve.

One of their “main options,” the defender, is now one of the players with whom the team is “working on a deal.”

Additionally, Esteve is now in the last 18 months of his contract, and Turf Moor is hoping that this will put pressure on Montpellier to sell for a fair amount.

Burnley might benefit from Esteve’s contributions both on and off the field.

Still only twenty-one, Esteve made his Ligue 1 debut for Montpellier in the first match of the 2021–2022 season and went on to start twenty more games in the campaign.

If he hadn’t missed work due to a muscular issue from late November to late February, it would have been more.

Even though he wasn’t in the starting lineup for the majority of his team’s games last year (18), he was able to work his way back into the lineup and is currently enjoying a run of five straight starts.

In September, he made his debut for the France under-21 team, and he has now made 60 appearances for the club altogether.

Montpellier is only two points above the relegation play-off place in an eighteen-team league, despite their meager 18 points thus far.

In Ligue 1, Montpellier is ranked 12th.

Esteve’s familiarity with the demands of playing for a struggling team implies that he is a valuable asset to Burnley going forward.

In terms of interceptions per 90 last season, he was fourth among all under-21 players in Europe’s top five leagues.

As of January 17, he held the fourth position in the same age category for clearances per 90.

According to under-23 talent scout Antonio Mango, he’s a “special” player who will also hold his teammates accountable.

Following their team’s defeat against 10-man Strasbourg in February 2023, he insisted that the team “pull their fingers out,” and Kompany might think that this mentality will help them in the locker room.
