Frazer Clarke is set to undergo surgery following his devastating first-round knockout loss to Fabio Wardley on Saturday night. The knockout, delivered by a brutal right hook early in the fight, allowed Wardley to successfully defend his British and Commonwealth heavyweight titles.
The rematch took place during the Artur Beterbiev vs. Dmitry Bivol undercard at the Kingdom Arena as part of Riyadh Season. Unlike their first encounter, which lasted 12 rounds and ended in a draw, Wardley claimed victory in just 2 minutes and 28 seconds.
Clarke’s injury is not expected to require plates, and he will likely be discharged on the same day, with a recovery time estimated between six to eight weeks.
After the fight, Wardley expressed his desire to make a statement but extended his best wishes to Clarke, reflecting on their previous 12-round battle. Wardley also looked ahead to his future, stating his readiness to compete at the world level, having gained confidence from his performance.
