Jake Paul And Mike Tyson came together to promote their highly anticipated eight-round heavyweight fight, scheduled for November 15 at AT&T Stadium in Texas. During the press conference, Jake Paul tried to grab attention by showcasing his $200,000 “ear protector,” a nod to Tyson’s infamous 1996 ear-biting incident with Evander Holyfield.
However, it was former world champion Tony Bellew who stole the spotlight. Known for his tendency to face older opponents, Jake Paul’s upcoming bout with the 58-year-old Tyson has sparked debate, with many fans joking that Paul only fights older fighters. Bellew took this joke to the extreme by presenting an elderly man as Paul’s next opponent, saying, “If Mike lets you survive [on Friday], I’ve got your next opponent right here, Jake. This guy’s 107, a great-grandfather, and he’s ready to take you on.”
Bellew’s prank, however, didn’t land as intended. The microphone wasn’t powerful enough, leaving the press conference host, Ariel Helwani, repeatedly asking, “Is that Tony Bellew?” Bellew and his companion were quickly escorted out, but the incident has since gone viral.
After his planned victory over Tyson, Jake Paul is eyeing a fight with boxing’s current top star, Saul “Canelo” Alvarez, for the cruiserweight title. Paul believes that defeating Tyson will solidify his status as the face of boxing and set up a mega-fight with Canelo at 200 pounds. Paul sees this as the opportunity to prove his trash talk about beating Canelo is legitimate and to claim a major upset, making him the sport’s new “money man.”
“I mean, I do have something in mind after Tyson,” Paul said. “Canelo’s on his way out, and he’s going to want a payday. I’ll fight him for the cruiserweight title, and it makes so much sense. Canelo has been eyeing the cruiserweight belt, and after beating Tyson, this will prove I am the biggest attraction in boxing.” Paul also highlighted that, as he can’t make 175 pounds, a fight with Canelo at cruiserweight would be the logical next step.
