How Celtics Star Jaylen Brown Reacted to Heat Landing Terry Rozier.
The Heat made a move on Tuesday that some believe should scare Boston while the Celtics were in Miami.
In a trade with the Hornets that sent the aging Kyle Lowry and a potential first-round pick to Charlotte, the Heat acquired former Celtics player Terry Rozier.
With a club that has participated in three of the previous four Eastern Conference finals, Rozier will now attempt to fit in at the midseason. Jaylen Brown, a top player for the Boston Celtics, thinks the 29-year-old sparkplug will have little to no issue adjusting.
Prior to Boston’s game against the Heat on Thursday, Brown told reporters on Wednesday, “I think it makes sense,” according to Brian Robb of MassLive. As Terry is already a Miami native, I believe it made perfect sense. I’m glad for him because it seems to accord with what their culture stands for.
Rozier, who is currently in his seventh NBA season, is enjoying his finest year to date. In addition to scoring a career-high 23.2 points and dishing out 6.6 assists per game, he is also pulling down 3.9 rebounds. In addition, his career-best shooting percentage of 45.9% is achieved from the field.
As Rozier moves from being a bottom-of-the-league player with the Hornets to a starting point with Jimmy Butler, Tyler Herro, and Bam Adebayo, his output is probably going to decrease a little bit. However, that doesn’t mean his influence will decrease.
“I firmly believe that they improve,” Brown remarked. Terry’s athleticism, playoff experience, and other attributes make him a perfect fit, in my opinion. Tough, competitive, physically fit, with that kind of mentality and playoff experience—I believe he fits all of that.
Rozier hasn’t played in the postseason since leaving Boston, but now that the Heat are 24-19 and in sixth place in the Eastern Conference, he should have the opportunity to do so once more. That being said, if Rozier plays the role that everyone believes he will, the Heat could rise in the second half of the season and become even more of a threat in the East. Robb reports that Derrick White spoke to reporters, referring to Rozier as “a guy that has done a lot in this league, can score from all three levels, and defensively he competes.” Given his talent, they’re a strong team, so that’s understandable. Rozier’s first game as a member of the Heat is against the Memphis Grizzlies on Wednesday night. He will play his previous team, Boston, at the Heat on Thursday night at 7:30 p.m.
