Ime Udoka was named the next head coach of the Houston Rockets on Wednesday, eight months after the team issued the extended ban that resulted in his exit from Boston.
For the first time since making his first remarks following the ban, Udoka offered commentary on the circumstances.
“I apologized to many people for the difficult situation I put them in when everything happened and I released a statement months ago,” Udoka stated. “I still stand by that, and even today, I regret it far more. During this past offseason, I’ve worked on myself in a variety of ways, strengthening my weaknesses and taking some time to step back, think, and develop. That, in my opinion, will improve my leadership and coaching abilities. However, the issue has been settled, so I’m not really able to talk about it much.
Udoka was suspended by the Celtics due to repeated infractions of team policies about a romantic involvement with a female employee.
Joe Mazzulla, 34, was named Boston’s temporary head coach. After Boston and Udoka split up in February, Mazzulla’s temporary tag was lifted.
According to Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN, an independent investigation that the Celtics commissioned revealed that Udoka had inappropriate relationships with one lady at work and had used derogatory language prior to the commencement of those relationships.
Fertitta stated that after reviewing the organization’s studies, he was confident in Udoka’s hiring. Nothing, he claimed, indicated that Udoka shouldn’t be employed by the NBA.Fertitta stated, “It was a difficult decision, but it wasn’t.” “Because we thought there was one person who would be an amazing fit to lead us to the next level.” We simply can’t wait to see Ime. The Rockets had found everything they were looking for in him. We researched this man thoroughly, going all the way back to when he was a player. We recently received an excellent report, and we couldn’t be happier.
