What David Raya and Aaron Ramsdale did before Arsenal penalty shootout heroics vs Porto.
In Arsenal’s victory over Porto via penalty shootout, David Raya emerged victorious.
Tuesday night’s Champions League quarterfinal matchup between the Gunners and Porto was guaranteed. After Arsenal’s 1-0 victory that evening, the tie went to overtime with an overall score of 1-1.
After thirty minutes of extra time, the score remained unchanged, necessitating a penalty shootout. With Raya making the vital save to stop Galeno from converting Porto’s fourth penalty kick, Arsenal prevailed 4-2.
Wendell’s early penalty, which gave Arsenal the lead in the shootout, was again assisted by Raya. With this, the Gunners advance to the next stage of the competition and will be drawn for Friday’s quarterfinal.

Following the last extra-time whistle, everyone’s attention was on Arsenal’s potential spot-kick taker. Raya was the focus of attention as well; the goalie for the Gunners was expected to advance his team to the next round.
Raya was seen making his way to the home dugout, where he sat with two Arsenal coaches, prior to the start of the shootout. Raya was spotted studying a tablet in this area, seemingly reviewing a plan for the Porto penalty.
Arsenal’s Aaron Ramsdale, who was on the bench, was also standing close to the bench, encouraging his teammate. Ramsdale was shown giving his teammate a hug as he joined in on the celebrations on the field following Raya’s stop of Galeno’s vital spot kick.
Since Raya moved to Arsenal on loan from Brentford last summer, Mikel Arteta has established him as the team’s starting goalkeeper. In what was Ramsdale’s sixth Premier League game, the weekend saw him receive a rare start because Raya was ruled out.
