According to reports, Barcelona is ready to let go of Frenkie de Jong, their master of the midfield, in order to make room for a top-tier pivot for the coming campaign.
After a dismal season, Barcelona is already planning a big makeover with the summer transfer window approaching. In an effort to address major areas of concern, the Catalan club is preparing for changes within the team as well as in the managerial hierarchy.
First and foremost on Barcelona’s agenda is the management situation’s resolution, with signs suggesting that Xavi might stay on beyond the current campaign. But the main emphasis is on reorganizing the squad, especially in terms of adding a world-class pivot and strengthening the left flank position.

SPORT sources claim that Barcelona is prepared to give up De Jong, who is being pursued by Bayern Munich and PSG, two of the Premier League’s elite teams. Even though the Dutch midfielder is happy at Barcelona and has a contract that runs through 2026, the club is keen to move forward with the possible transfer for both sporting and financial reasons.

De Jong’s performances this season have fallen short of expectations due to a crowded midfield lineup and setbacks from injuries. Barcelona may have trouble convincing De Jong to leave this summer, as evidenced by their failed attempts to transfer him in 2022.
If De Jong decides to stay, Barcelona would have to settle for a less talented pivot midfielder, which will undermine their hopes of acquiring a top-tier addition. Furthermore, the club is doubting De Jong’s aptitude for the position, thus the new midfielder would be expected to start in the No. 6 spot.
