In 2023, Alabama is anticipated to regain its position as one of the top offensive lines in the SEC. Elijah Pritchett, Kadyn Proctor, Seth McLaughlin, Darrian Dalcourt, and Tyler Booker will be the key members of the Tide’s offensive line this season. They will all likely be at the vanguard of the team’s increased trench effort.
Proctor and Pritchett, two former standout recruits, will compete for a tackle slot. Their struggle has been intense. Where the two are in the competition for the starting job was disclosed by head coach Nick Saban.
After practice, Saban stated of the two OTs, “They’re both in competition.” “I believe that both guys could use a little more consistency in their ability to pay attention, do tasks correctly, pay attention even when they’re fatigued, and have the mental fortitude to persevere. However, I think our offensive line’s maturity and leadership at that position are extremely great.
“Those guys are going to have a difficult time committing and playing to their full potential. Although nobody is underdeveloped, there are some expectations when one first starts out.
This season, McLaughlin will play center for the Crimson Tide. With any luck, Dalcourt will be his backup in addition to playing offensive guard in case of unanticipated illnesses or injuries.
“[McLaughlin] has performed incredibly well,” Saban remarked. “He has grown in size and strength, yet his attitude has never changed. No matter what he does, I don’t think hiring him will be a bad idea for anyone. He has the necessary qualities.
Like the team that took home the Joe Moore Award for being the best offensive line in the country in 2020, Saban will be expecting to this squad to lead the charge and establish a new benchmark for OL play in Tuscaloosa. Saban needed to create competition in order to accomplish that, and so far, it’s working in his advantage.
