Breaking News: Fagan Celebrates Career-Defining Moment as Lions Achieve…

After leading Brisbane from the bottom to the top of the AFL in his eight years at the club, Chris Fagan declared Saturday’s premiership win the pinnacle of his football career. Having previously been part of Alastair Clarkson’s coaching team for four Hawthorn premierships, Fagan now has his own Jock McHale Medal after a stellar 2024 season.

Fagan’s journey has been remarkable. He joined a struggling Brisbane in late 2016, enduring a wooden spoon in his first season, but gradually transformed the team. His efforts in player recruitment and development played a huge role in Brisbane’s triumph over Sydney, marking him as the first non-AFL player to coach a premiership team.

Reflecting on his nearly 40 years of coaching, Fagan described the victory as the best moment of his career, especially considering the scrutiny and pressure that comes with coaching. He highlighted Brisbane’s resilience, overcoming a difficult mid-season position to ultimately secure the premiership.

Starting with key draft picks like Hugh McCluggage, Jarrod Berry, and Cam Rayner, Fagan credited everyone at the club—from the recruiting staff to the players—for fostering a winning culture. The season’s challenges, including a 0-3 start and five ACL injuries, made the win even more meaningful.

Despite personal challenges, including his involvement in the Hawthorn racism investigation, Fagan said his football club, family, and friends supported him throughout, helping him remain steady.

He emphasized how adversity opened opportunities for younger players, who rose to the occasion in the finals. Fagan concluded by saying the team would enjoy the win but stay motivated to strive for further success in future seasons.
