News Now: Manager Urges Club to keep Striker.

De Zerbi urges Brighton to keep Welbeck.

Danny Welbeck should be retained by Brighton for at least one more season, according to Roberto De Zerbi.

The 33-year-old forward, who has previously played for Manchester United, Arsenal, and England, inked a new deal in August 2022 that expires this summer. The head coach at Brighton said:

“I hope the club can extend his contract because he is still a great player and he is important in the dressing room.”

In October, The Athletic disclosed that the first discussions over a new contract had been had with Welbeck’s representatives. They are anticipated to pick up speed following the end of the January transfer window.

In the fourth round of the FA Cup, he came off the bench to score his third goal in 18 games this season, a solo effort to seal the 5-2 triumph at Sheffield United.
