Starting the encounter for the Red Devils, the 32-year-old was on the right side of the offensive trio behind striker Zeki Amdouni, who scored in the Clarets’ previous match in a tie with Nottingham Forest.

In the first leg of Burnley’s 2023–24 season, Gudmundsson was starting for the fourth time in a row. Earlier in the month, he had made appearances from the bench in Premier League games against teams like Tottenham Hotspur and Forest.

It is expected that Gudmundsson will miss out on his side’s trip to Salford City in the third round of the EFL Cup on Tuesday night, with Kompany set to make wholesale changes to the XI that started against Erik ten Hag’s team.
