Everton captain Seamus Coleman has committed his future to the club by signing a one-year contract extension, keeping him at Goodison Park until 2023. Coleman, who was appointed captain in 2019, has made 350 appearances for Everton since joining from Sligo Rovers in 2009.
At 32, Coleman remains a key figure for Everton, having made 25 Premier League appearances last season. Under new manager Rafael Benitez, who took over from Carlo Ancelotti this summer, Coleman is expected to continue his influential role.
“It’s a massive honor to extend my time here,” Coleman told Everton. “I’ve always focused on working hard, and the club has rewarded me for that. I’m very happy with this extension. Hopefully, I can keep contributing on the pitch and offer my experience to the younger players.”
Everton have not claimed major silverware since winning the FA Cup in 1995, but Coleman is determined to help end that drought. “Winning is what we’re here to do,” he said. “The whole club’s vision is to break that barrier and win silverware again. My job is to ensure we’re doing all the right things behind the scenes and on the training pitch. We need to demand more from each other every day.”
