This season’s first meeting between these two teams will take place tonight. The Blue Jays hope to defeat the struggling Rockies in this first game of a three-game set. The Blue Jays are 2-1 in the Rogers Centre, but the Rockies are 1-6 on the road due to their awful play away from Coors Field.
Tonight, Ryan Feltner will be facing the mound for the Rockies. Feltner has tossed 11 innings with an ERA of 3.27 and a 0-1 record. With 14 strikeouts in 11 innings, he has only allowed seven hits. Ryan has been reliable thus far this season, but will he be able to handle these formidable Blue Jay batters tonight while pitching on the road? I’m not entirely sure.
Toronto can be very hot, but their offensive performance has not been up to par. The Blue Jays are 24th in slugging and 25th in batting average in the league. Although they only score 3.6 runs a game on average, I believe now is the moment when the Blue Jays really heat up. I believe that tonight is the big game that Toronto has been waiting for this season. The Rockies rank worst in BAA, WHIP, ERA, and Ks per nine. How could a club resolve all of this in a road series opener? They refuse to.
Anticipate the Blue Jays to arrive at Fletcher early and get off to a quick start. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is a dangerous bat to watch because he homered in his last at-bat and I believe he has a huge game today. I would be shocked if the Blue Jays won by fewer than three runs tonight. I fully expect them to score five or more runs.
