Thursday night marked the 45th victory for the New York Knicks this season, but they were overshadowed by the news that Julius Randle will miss the rest of the campaign. Due to the injury, Randle has already missed the last 28 games in a row and will miss the next seven games for the Knicks.
It was revealed prior to the Knicks’ 120-109 victory over the Sacramento Kings that Randle would require season-ending shoulder surgery, which would keep him out of action until the beginning of the next one.
The Knicks’ chances of winning the championship were expected to increase significantly if Randle could return before the postseason. However, the news on Thursday was devastating to the team, as they still have a great chance of winning the postseason, but it will be much harder to go deep without Randle.
Randle did not experience any setback, according to reports that Knicks coach Tom Thibodeau informed reporters before the game. But seconds later, Chris Haynes published an interview with Randle in which Randle acknowledged that he had suffered a setback.
According to Randle, “I want everyone to know that I did everything in my power to get back this season,” Bleacher Report reported. “To be playing right now was my objective. I decided against having surgery at the time for that reason. However, I had to have surgery since, approximately five weeks prior, I had a full-contact session while wearing pads, which resulted in another injury to my shoulder. My s—— was not steady. When I initially dislocated it, I felt like I was in the same place, and ever since then, it’s been a struggle.
