Goalie Vaclav Hladky of Ipswich Town thinks his club will enter their pivotal Championship run-in with the mindset that they can win each and every game.
With seven victories from the previous eight games, Kieran McKenna’s team entered the season’s last international break on a high note after a 6-0 thumping of Sheffield Wednesday last weekend.
And it appears that in order to move up to the top two and earn consecutive automatic promotions into the Premier League, the Blues will need to put together an almost flawless eight-game run.
“Saturday was probably the best way we could go into an international break,” stated Hladky.
“Next Tuesday and Wednesday will be the same as usual. While we will be working hard, we also have a few days off to recoup. We want to be as prepared as we can for the eight major games that lie ahead of us.”
The Czech goalkeeper said, “There’s always belief,” when asked if the players thought they could accomplish something exceptional after their recent run of success. That has been the case for the past two years. The most pervasive assumption is that we can win each and every game. The following game will be our first.
Hladky commented of the previous weekend’s crushing of the previously winning Owls: “It was fun for everyone in the stadium.” It may appear simple at first, but you need to start strong and overcome certain obstacles; we accomplished that before reaping the benefits. Each game presents a challenge, and this one was no exception.
“We consistently create a ton of opportunities when you watch our past games. That’s how a lot of our games could have ended, especially this one. Almost everything went in this time.
They made an effort to engage with us and exert as much pressure as they could. That being said, our manager and I have been a group for 2.5 years. They’ve spent a few months working with their manager. That has an impact.
“We’re happy with the clean sheet because this season we’ve given up far too many goals.” We had to work hard all the way to the finish to get the clean sheet, even when the score was 4-0, 5-0, or 6-0. We performed that task effectively.”
After playing Blackburn (a) and Southampton (h) over Easter weekend, Town will play Norwich (a), Watford (h), Middlesbrough (h), Hull (a), Coventry (a), and Huddersfield (h).
