The Minnesota Timberwolves’ chances of winning their play-in game on Tuesday against the Los Angeles Kings have gone worse. According to ESPN’s Adrian Wojnarowski, Rudy Gobert will not be available for Minnesota’s game on Tuesday night. He has been suspended by the team for one game for hitting teammate Kyle Anderson during Sunday’s regular season finale.
Gobert will be out from Tuesday’s game, but Wojnarowski believes if the Timberwolves fall short against the Lakers, he will be able to play against the winner of the Pelicans-Thunder game. Jaden McDaniels, a defensive staple with the Timberwolves, suffered a fractured hand during halftime of their regular season finale. It is still a significant loss even if the penalty is limited to one game.
During a second-quarter timeout in their Sunday 113-108 victory over the New Orleans Pelicans, Gobert and Anderson got into a fight. Anderson and Gobert got into a furious dispute about defense and rebounding during the timeout, and Minnesota head coach Chris Finch tried to address the team. After yelling at Gobert to “shut the f— up b—-,” Anderson was somewhat lightly struck in the chest by the three-time Defensive Player of the Year.
Soon after, the two split off, with Anderson finishing the match and Gobert being dismissed by the team. Wolves guard Mike Conley claims that Gobert sent a text message apologizing to the squad and said, “We’ll speak about it and move on.” Gobert also expressed regret on Twitter on Sunday night, saying he had let his emotions to control him.
“Emotions got the best of me today,” Gobert wrote. Whatever was said, I shouldn’t have answered in that manner. I would like to apologize to all of the fans, the team, and especially to my real idol and teammate, Kyle.”
