After Ohio State football coach Ryan Day’s team loses their third straight game against Michigan, which is typically considered to be the most significant game on the calendar, he is receiving criticism from the media, fans, and even former Buckeyes on social media.
Day has led the Ohio State program to 56-7 overall, but in those three seasons, he has prevented the club from winning the Big Ten title game (losing 1-3 in the series). Undoubtedly, some will be demanding for his resignation. Urban Meyer, a former OSU coach, is not one of them, though.
Following the game, Meyer stated on the Fox network, “No, he is not under fire.” “No, he’s not in terms of job security. In actuality, is he being attacked? Yes, he is. In Columbus, Ohio, he resides. He is also the head football coach at Ohio State. That is indeed the case.
Meyer went on, “You just have sympathy for the families, especially the family of Ryan Day. However, it’s a big-boy industry. He’s a mature boy. He’ll take care of it, return, and—you know what—return in January and resume work. How can we defeat the Wolverines? That is the main objective.”
During his time as Ohio State’s head coach, Meyer went 7-0 versus Michigan. Day served as offensive coordinator under Meyer from 2017 to 2018, when the latter left to take over as head coach.
Following the game, former Ohio State tailback Maurice Clarett and former Ohio State quarterback Terrelle Pryor both lost their cool.
