Not after another loss to a middling team on national television, on Thanksgiving, no less, the Ford family’s personal NFL holiday.
Though in the end it wasn’t just the losing. It was the way the Detroit Lions kept losing under Matt Patricia and Bob Quinn. The way the team looked, disheveled and uninspired, ill-equipped and disconnected, often in over their heads.
Owner Sheila Ford Hamp finally had enough of the embarrassment and made it official Saturday. No one can argue Patricia and Quinn didn’t get a chance.
“We hoped (by the) third year, things would jell,”said Hamp, and that Patricia’s “coaching ability would come together in a good way. (But) it became clear it wasn’t working.”

Still, it’s not easy firing a coach — and a general manager — during the season. The franchise hadn’t done it since Steve Mariucci was let go 15 years ago, also following Thanksgiving weekend.
