Ironman athlete dies during triathlon event in Maryland this morning

An athlete competing in this weekend’s Ironman in Indian Wells- La Quinta has died. Officials with CalFire say the victim was a 46-year-old man who went into cardiac arrest during the swim portion of this race. It happened around 9 AM on Sunday. Lifeguards say they noticed the swimmer was struggling, pulled him out of the water, rendered aid and transported him to a local hospital where he later died. The swimmer identity has yet to be released.
