Longhorns latest News: Coaching Crisis:Has He Lost Touch with Modern Football?”

Former Texas Longhorns head coach Tom Herman is once again under the microscope as the college football season progresses. Now in his second year at the helm of the Florida Atlantic Owls, Herman faces increasing pressure after accumulating a disappointing 6-11 record so far.

College Football Network has offered a sharp critique of Herman’s performance at FAU:

“When the Florida Atlantic Owls dismissed Willie Taggart after the 2022 season, Athletic Director Brian White attributed the decision to ‘the lack of on-field success’ during Taggart’s tenure. White was optimistic about hiring Tom Herman in December 2022, touting his winning history and stating that ‘he can be tremendously successful at FAU.’ Two years later, those words have come back to haunt him.

Taggart left FAU with a .455 win percentage, securing 15 victories in 33 games. In contrast, Herman has managed only six wins in 22 games, resulting in a .272 win percentage. Following a disappointing overtime loss to the Temple Owls—regarded as a weaker opponent in the AAC—the program’s struggles have become a source of frustration for fans and stakeholders.

Herman’s first season (4-8 overall, 3-5 in conference) was somewhat excusable as he navigated the challenges of a new team and conference. However, in 2024, despite a weaker AAC, the Owls are winless in conference play (0-6) and are on pace for their worst season since 2016. …”
