Brazilian boxing legend Jose Adilson Rodrigues Dos Santos, known as “Maguila,” has passed away at 66. Throughout his career, he faced notable opponents like Evander Holyfield and George Foreman and reportedly endured health issues related to suspected chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
Maguila fought 85 bouts over a 17-year career, achieving 77 wins, with 68 by knockout, and held the titles of Brazilian and South American heavyweight champion.
After retiring in 2000, he was diagnosed with CTE in 2013, following struggles with memory loss and confusion. His condition’s associated aggressive behavior led his wife, Irani Pinheiro, to seek professional support.
In 2018, Maguila chose to donate his brain to scientific research. He spent his final years at the Anjos de Deus Therapeutic Center in Itu, Sao Paulo.
