The heavyweight division has been buzzing with excitement, particularly since the involvement of Riyadh Season, which peaked with Tyson Fury and Oleksandr Usyk’s clash for the undisputed title on May 18. Their highly anticipated rematch is scheduled for December 21. Recently, Bob Arum spoke with Dan Rafael on the Fight Freaks Unite/Big Fight Weekend podcast, where he shared his insights on the future of the heavyweight division, including his thoughts on a potential Anthony Joshua vs. Tyson Fury matchup.
When asked about Fury’s preparation for his rematch with Usyk, Arum said: “Mentally, I think he’s in great shape. Physically, he’ll be in the best condition possible. But Father Time is a tough opponent. Fury’s getting older and has been through many wars. Usyk, on the other hand, is a highly skilled fighter with exceptional training, so I expect another great fight.”
On the topic of Fury vs. Joshua, Arum expressed skepticism: “Fury-Joshua doesn’t excite me. Joshua’s recent loss to Dubois doesn’t make him the top choice. If Fury defeats Usyk and doesn’t go for a trilogy, Dubois would be the ideal next opponent, possibly for a big fight at Wembley.”
Arum added, “If Usyk wins both fights, his best option would also be Dubois, especially considering their controversial match, where many felt Dubois’ punch that knocked down Usyk was legal and could have ended the fight.”
